Commission Meeting 12 Mar 2019
 
Call to order at 10 AM by chairman Andrews.
 
Commissioner Byrd gave the invocation, followed by the pledge of allegiance. 
 
The agenda and previous minutes were approved by unanimous vote.
 
Payroll/personnel Report:
     There one new hire and one separation, both within the sheriff’s department.  No overtime to report.  Report approved by unanimous vote.
 
     There was a request from the merit board asking for a few word changes on applications and EVAL forms.  Ms. Hawsey, merit board member in the audience, without being on the agenda and with no recognition from the chair, offered her interpretation of what the merit board meant.  This will be addressed at the next meeting.
 
     Commissioner Millender noted that he had looked into some rather high utility bills linked to the Animal Shelter when they were closed for repairs.  The result of his inquiry was a lowering of some of the utility bills but no explanation as to why they were so high to start with.
 
Claims approval:
     No claims over the $3,000.00 limit in the gasoline fund.
     Four claims exceeded the $500.00 limit in the general fund. 
     Claims were approved by unanimous vote.
 
EMA Director:
     Mr. Brock spoke again of the safe room and requested permission to use several methods of notifying the public of the safe room location and capabilities.  Mr. Brock was given permission to utilize whatever methods he deemed necessary to advertise the safe room.
HEY FOLKS, THERE’S A COUNTY SAFE ROOM LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF RURAL STREE AND WILD AVENUE.  THIS IS FOR THE UTILIZATION OF RESIDENTS WHEN BAD WEATHER THREATENS.  USE IT!!!
 
     He also turned over the $796.00 performance grant from the state.  This needs the chairman’s signature for deposit into the county’s coffers.
 
Commissioner Millender asked Mr. Brock and the other Commissioners what can we do to help/assist those unfortunate folks in Lee County.  Mr. Brock has for action.
 
County Engineer:
     Mr. Foshee received permission to go forward with the purchase of new dump trucks.
The commission also approved Mr. Foshee getting some outside help to finish closing out the work being performed on County Road 43.  This was brought on due to the loss of the assistant engineer.
 
County Administrator:
     Ms. Brown announced the 1 quarter sales tax from the Piggly Wiggly and the Basket equaled $11,136.99.
 
County Attorney:
     Mr. Bishop noted he has had no correspondence from the Attorney General’s office on his questions dealing with the merit board.  He did note that he has a meeting scheduled to include Sheriff Brock and see what can be worked out in house.
